Tactical Casualty Care (TC2)

Our Tactical Casualty Care (TC2) course is a hands-on training program designed to prepare students to recognize and treat life-threatening injuries during high-risk and rapidly evolving emergencies. Built around nationally recognized tactical medical principles, this course emphasizes practical skills that can be applied before traditional EMS resources are able to safely access the scene.

Students will learn to assess casualties and provide effective medical care during both the Direct Threat (Care Under Fire) and Indirect Threat (Tactical Field Care) phases of an incident. Training focuses on rapid decision-making, casualty movement, hemorrhage control, airway management, chest trauma recognition, and prioritizing interventions while maintaining personal and team safety.

What You'll Learn

Participants will develop the confidence and ability to:

  • Identify and manage immediately life-threatening injuries.

  • Control severe bleeding using tourniquets, wound packing, and pressure dressings.

  • Recognize and manage tension pneumothorax.

  • Utilize basic and advanced airway adjuncts.

  • Perform patient assessment using tactical medicine principles.

  • Safely move casualties to higher levels of care.

  • Apply critical interventions under stressful and dynamic conditions.

The course combines classroom instruction with extensive hands-on practice, allowing students to reinforce essential skills through realistic scenarios and practical skill stations.

Direct Threat (Care Under Fire)

During the Direct Threat phase, responders must balance personal safety with providing immediate life-saving care. Medical interventions are intentionally limited to those that can be performed quickly while operating in an environment where the threat has not yet been eliminated.

Students learn how to:

  • Prioritize scene safety.

  • Rapidly identify catastrophic hemorrhage.

  • Properly apply commercial tourniquets.

  • Move casualties to safer locations.

  • Make sound medical decisions under extreme stress.

This training reflects the realities encountered during active violence incidents, law enforcement operations, industrial accidents, structural collapses, natural disasters, and other high-threat environments where EMS access may be delayed.

Scenario-Based Learning

Students participate in realistic, scenario-driven exercises designed to simulate the stress and complexity of actual emergencies. Using moulage, trauma simulators, training equipment, and instructor demonstrations, participants build the confidence to respond effectively when seconds matter.

By the end of the course, students will possess a practical framework for recognizing life-threatening injuries, prioritizing treatment, and providing effective casualty care until definitive medical resources become available.

Standards

The TC2 course is built upon current evidence-based tactical medical practices and follows the principles established by Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) and Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC). Course content also incorporates and expands upon nationally recognized bleeding control principles to provide students with a comprehensive foundation in tactical trauma management.
